Telecommuting is not nearly as modern as you might think.  In fact, back in 1877 a bank president arranged to have a telephone line strung from his Boston office to his home in Somerville, Massachusetts.  And telecommuting was born.

Currently 11 million people across the country are telecommuting full-time. ITAC states that there are 32 million telecommuters including part-time and freelancers as of April 2001. Telecommuting is the workplace revolution quietly sweeping America, a revolution that is benefiting people from all walks of life, income levels, geographic location, gender, skills and occupations.  The chief benefit of telecommuting is an improved quality of life that decreases time spent commuting and grinding away at the office, and increases time spent with families and loved ones.

Here in Okanogan County telecommuting allows people to live here while working for companies across the country.  Many people in communities throughout the county are currently doing just that. The Internet has hundreds of sites available to help you make telecommuting a reality. We've put together a list of a few of those resources to help you find a better way to work right here at home.
